One of my sons, who is in the funeral service, told me that when "Amazing Grace" is sung at RC funerals, the first line is sung thus: "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved and strengthened me."
I was doing a bit of Internet research on the song when I came across this RC teacher's YouTube clip. He does not like the hymn.
