Yesterday Providence Canadian Reformed Church of Hamilton, Ontario, was formally instituted. In the morning service at Ancaster Church, six elders and three deacons were ordained. Thereby the consistory was constituted and the last formal condition for institution was met. In the afternoon, Providence Church had its first worship service, in the Ancaster building with the Ancaster congregation as guest. It was a bittersweet day. One the one hand we rejoice that the congregation had grown to the point where the institution of a new church became inevitable, and we are glad to see what the Lord is doing; on the other hand, I'm sad to see one-third of my congregation leave. May the Lord bless both congregations with the Spirit of love, unity and peace.
